Return of the Fly!
I know that I seem to have disappeared for quite some time (and for good reasons), however I am back! I will be trying to write on here everyday, but being a student and campaign manager for Martine Martin it is a busy time of year. I will do my best.

The NHS...

Anyone who knows me knows that one of my pet hates is the blessed institution we know as the NHS. Having had serious difficulties trying to get simple tests done on the NHS for a mere fracture over the past year (yes that's right I said a year Tony) I know how it feels to be let down by our NHS. I was out canvassing this morning with my good friend Martine Martin and the main issue on the doorsteps was the closure of hospitals, MRSA and the ever increasing problems with health services in this country. When will New Labour finally realise that over managing the NHS does not help it in any way shape or form? I'll tell you when; when they are the official opposition to a Conservative government. Why do we let this happen time and time again? Targets don't work (now being blamed for the 59% rise of hospital infection deaths in one year), mismanagement doesn't work (the reasoning behind countless Accident and Emergency wards being closed, not to mention how many hospitals are under threat) and most importantly New Labour doesn't work (the reason behind all of the problems today with the NHS). They can't keep blaming the Tories for ever.
Grayrigg Train Crash

Sorry I'm not supposed to call it a crash anymore am I? Its an accident. One must point out that despite there being a fatality, there was only one fatality. This amazes me when you look at the horrific pictures from the crash scene, but proves that rail travel is still one of the safest modes of transport not only in this country, but across the world. Our rail system cannot handle high speed trains, network rail have done some dodgy rail repairs in the past, but I would sooner get on a train, then take a coach. Also people having been whinging about network rail, but is there any decent company out there who is willing to take on the massive job of providing and supporting the railway systems in this country? On a final note, I would like to applaud Sir Richard Branson for being so supportive of the driver of the train, and being one of the first officials to arrive at the crash site. Mind you I did notice he praised the design of his new trains, quoting;

"If it had been any of the old trains, the injuries and fatalities would have been horrendous...built like a tank"

Hate to say it but he's right.
Americans in Charge Of Iraq

A lot of people have asked me my opinion on the war in Iraq recently, especially the British plans of withdrawal. To be honest I think it would be irresponsible, not because the country's in a horrible state but simply that it would mean increasing the percentage of armed forces in the country that are American. I quote from the American Army's magazine of preventive maintenance:

"A slipping gear could let your M203 grenade launcher fire when you least expect it. That would make you quite unpopular in what's left of your unit."

Should we really be subjecting these poor Iraqis to this kind of security...?

Letter Bomber

Now I hate the press for this kind of thing. This man has been arrested on suspicion of making and sending out seven letter bombs. Suspicion. Nothing else. He can only be held until 4pm today, when undoubtedly he will be released pending further investigations. At this point he will be hunted down and his life made a misery by the press. If he has done these atrocious attacks, then the police will do their job and make sure he does not get away with it. However the poor man seems to be condemned already, I thought our law in this country states that you are innocent until proven guilty? I would like to finish with the headline of the Times from Tuesday, which I found to be amusing;

''Letter Bomber was Cyclist''

What has that got to do with anything? Is this going to be a new Muslims in burkas thing; now we should look out for any suspicious bicycles? Its crazy. And the word was. What does that imply, that he gave it up on his doctors advice? Was he addicted? It makes this fly chuckle.
The Budget

So the date for the budget has been set, the 21st of March, and seeing as I will happen to be in the Houses of Parliament that day, I will be able to hear Gordon's last ever budget. One has to ask... how many more ''Bullions'' of pounds is he going to put into the black hole we call the NHS... how much will the new stealth taxes cost us... will he include African aid in this budget, even though its no longer a populist policy... and of course we expect a green tax of some sort, surely..? Could be interesting, this fly thinks it will sound distinctly like an election budget to win him some brownie points. But Gordon wouldn't do that surely...? We will see.

welcome to the first from the fly

Having been introduced to the wonderful world of blogging by my good friend Martine Martin, I have decided to give it a go. I am the Barfly and I will be bringing you the best of the worst from politics, religion and current affairs. Basically anything I find interesting, and I wish to share with the world. A bit about myself; I am a student at the University of Hull, and am politically affiliated to the Conservative Party. Although a Tory, I do have a broad range of opinions and am not afraid to share them, so I may come accross as arrogant or rather controversial. I do not follow the crowds just becaus they do.

I believe everything I say, and say everything I believe.

I hope to post on here at least three times a day, so watch this space carefully. Hope you enjoy!!
